2-1. Loading media and configuring playback

2-1-1. Loading movies

Tap the "Movie" button in the Global & Edit section to open the movie selection view.

You can load movies from the file list created by the File Sharing function of iTunes, or from an album within your iPad’s Photos app.

Use the buttons at the bottom of the view to switch the source between File Sharing and the Photos app.

Selected movies are added to the currently active bank, starting at the upper left slot. Since you can change the slot assignment later, it may be more efficient to add all the required movies first, and sort them later.

Note that the movies can only be added to the currently active bank. To add movies to another bank, switch the tab and select another bank before selecting the movies to add.

To change the slot assignment, tap the Swap button, and then tap the 2 slots for which you wish to swap the assignment. You can swap a movie into an empty slot. Swapping between slots on different banks is currently not supported.

When done, tap the Swap button again.

To delete a registered item, tap the Delete button, followed by the target slot. The Delete button is automatically unselected after you delete an item.

To delete all items from the selected bank, tap the Delete All button.

[NOTE] Movies and images with excessively large resolution (i.e. with width or height greater than 2000 pixels) cannot be loaded. Such files will be listed in red.

2-1-2. Loading images

Tap the "Picture" button in the Global & Edit to open the image selection view.

Operation procedures are identical to those for movies.

As with movies, you can load images from the file list created by the File Sharing function of iTunes, or from an album within your iPad’s Photos app.

[NOTE] Movies and images with excessively large resolution (i.e. with width or height greater than 2000 pixels) cannot be loaded. Such files will be listed in red.

2-1-3. Configuring the display and motion of images

In EDIT mode, tapping a slot with an image registered will open the Picture Settings view. This view is used for various image settings including motion.
See also: 1-3-5. Motion settings view

Tap "Cancel" to discard all changes and exit the Picture Settings view. Tap "Done" to save the changes and exit.

If you wish to simply show/hide an image, or move and zoom in/out on an image on the preview screen, you do not need to configure the settings on the Picture Settings view.

[Basic Attributes for a Motion]
With COLORCODE VJ, you can add "movements" to images and texts. This movement is referred to as "motion". The current version of COLORCODE VJ mainly supports motions that move an element at a specified point in time.

The following motion details can be configured. For a particular point in time:
Display position
- Scale
- Alpha value (opacity)
- Easing
- Looping of motions

In COLORCODE VJ, you select specifying several reference key frames, and configure settings for each frame. The app will then automatically make adjustments for smooth transitions between the frames.

The upper region of the Picture Settings view is called the key frame preview section. The rectangle in the center represents the stage. The area outside the rectangle is off-screen (i.e. not displayed). lThis section briefly describes how images are displayed at each key frame.
The numbering of in the key frame indicates its execution order. A total of 10 key frames can be specified.

The central region is called the key frame settings section. This section is used to set the key frames, and also displays the relationship of the key frames in terms of execution timing.
The numbering of the key frames matches that on the key frame preview section.

The following region, referred to as the key frame details settings section, is where you configure the settings for each key frame.
As an exception, the total length of the motion is also configured here. Transition between the key frames can be interpolated with easing, for example, to accelerate from one frame to the next.

The bottom toolbar allows you to copy & paste motions, providing an easy way to reuse a motion configured for one media for another.
The Loop button specifies whether to repeat the entire motion. The Clear button clears all settings. Use this button to reset the settings and restart.Press Resize to resize the image. The image is resized if it is bigger than the value specified in "Length of Long Side after Resizing" option in Preferences.

[NOTE] About image size
You can also scale-down larger images, but larger images are larger in size, and thereby require more memory. Using multiple large files may result in slower response, and at worst, crashing of the app.

2-1-3-1. Motion settings

Tapping the [+] button on the key frame settings section will add a key frame.

This section shows the currently selected key frame.

This section shows the execution timing of the key frame.

The horizontal bar represents the flow of time. In the above example, transition from (0) to (1) is quick, (1) to (2) is slow, and (2) to (3) is quick again.

Setting the total time of the motion
When the final key frame of a motion is selected, you can tap the button to extend the total playback time. To shorten the playback time, move the slider to the left.

Key frame settings in details

Time: Sets the time from the first key frame to the selected key frame. The time is always from key frame (0), regardless of the selected key frame.

X, Y: Sets the coordinate (position) of the selected key frame.
Note that this coordinate is relative, with the upper left corner of the stage as (0, 0), and the bottom right corner as (1, 1). The coordinate can also be changed by dragging the key frame on the key frame preview section.

Alpha: Sets the opacity independently for each key frame.

Scale: Sets the display scale for the frame. Since images are displayed at their actual size regardless of the stage size, adjust the scale as necessary.

Easing: Sets the interpolation trend for smoother transition from the current key frame to the next. The curve is a graphical depiction of the transition, with the vertical axis representing movement and the horizontal axis representing time. We recommend experimenting to grasp the exact effect of easing.

Copy、Paste、Clear、Loop:
A motion can be duplicated for use with another image or text.
To copy a motion, tap "Copy", open the motion settings view for another key frame, and then tap "Paste".
"Loop" specifies whether to repeat the motion. When enabled, the motion is repeated until the associated image or text is hidden.
"Clear" clears all settings. Use this button to reset all settings and restart.
"Resize" Press Resize to resize the image. The image is resized if it is bigger than the value specified in "Length of Long Side after Resizing" option In Preferences.

You can change the slot assignment later with the Swap function. To make changes to an existing text, tap the corresponding slot of the media pool.

Tap the textbox area to open the software keyboard and input a text. Only the font setting is applied within the textbox. You can input multiple lines. Note that the text will be centered when displayed.

Color: Specifies the font color in RGB. The box to the left of the sliders will show a preview of the specified color.

Size: Sets the font size. Note that the specification is relative. Unlike images, the size of the text will be adjusted according to the stage size.

Font: Specifies the font.

Motion: Opens the motion settings view. See the following section for details.

2-2-2. Relocating media

At times, you may wish to move a media to a different slot for better access during your VJ play. For this reason, COLORCODE VJ offers a function for changing slot assignments.

First, tap the Swap button. Next, tap 2 slots for which you wish to swap the registered media. You can swap a media into an empty slot by selecting the empty slot as one of the two slots.

Repeat the above procedure to relocate the media into the desired slots.

By understanding that media is registered into the first empty slot starting from the upper left, and that media can be easily relocated as described above, you should be able to change the layout of the media pool as desired.

2-3. App settings

Under the EDIT mode, tapping the right-most button in the Global & Edit section will open the Settings screen for the app.

The Settings screen is only accessible under the EDIT mode. This is to prevent settings from being changed during the VJ play and causing unexpected behaviors.

Use the settings screen to set general preferences for the app.

2-3-1. Application

Background color:
Specifies the background color of the stage in RGB. Move the sliders for adjustment. The default setting (black) is recommended for normal use.

Resolution:
Specifies the resolution of the stage. When the specified resolution does not match the resolution of a connected external display, the setting will be overridden by the selection made upon connecting the display. As this may cause unexpected output (in particular, when there is a mismatch of aspect ratio), we suggest selecting a resolution suited for the intended external display.

Immediate playback in PLAY mode:
By default, playback is automatically started upon switching to PLAY mode. Disabling this function will allow you to switch to PLAY mode without starting the VJ play, allowing you to display an image with its motion paused, for example.

Video play will continue when switching from Play to Edit mode:
By default OFF.

Disable Auto-Lock:
By default, your iPad is configured to sleep after a period of inactivity. When your iPad goes to sleep, COLORCODE VJ will stop.
Turn this option ON to prevent your iPad from sleeping. Note, however, that this will shorten your iPad’s battery life.

2-3-2. Outputting movies

Output Size
This setting determines how the aspect ratio of the movie is handled.
Select from the following options.
A: Fit to Screen: The aspect ratio of the movie is maintained. The movie will be scaled so that whichever is longer of its height or width is adjusted to the external display (stage). Note that mixing movies of differing aspect ratios will create empty spaces in the screen.
B: Fill Screen: The aspect ratio of the movie is maintained. The movie will be scaled so that whichever is shorter of its height or width is adjusted to the external display (stage). For example, when outputting a 16:9 movie to a 4:3 monitor, the screen will be completely filled, but the left and right edges of the movie will be cut off.
C: Scale to Screen: The movie will be scaled so that both its height and width match those of the external display (stage), with the aspect ration changed as necessary. As a result, the subjects in the movie may become deformed.

Play the audio track in a video file.:When it's turned on, a sound of a video file is output. Like also video crossfade is also made sound. COLORCODE VJ can't do revese play, A sound of a speed change is the low quality. When this option is turned on, a CPU load becomes big.

Overscan Conpensation: This setting is for overscan of external output. Please change the setting when the black border is displayed on the outer edge during external output.

2-3-3. Risize of Pictures

Length of Long Side after Resizing
Resizes to the specified size if the length of the image's long boundary is bigger than the specified size. Resizing manually per image or automatically by placing them in a slot are both valid methods.

Resize Automaticaliy
Automatically Resize when Images are Placed in a Slot
If this setting is ON and images are placed in a slot, the images are resized automatically if the image is bigger than the value specified in "Length of Long Boundary after Resizing" above.

2-4. Using the internal camera

In Edit mode, press the Movie button to display the item selection view and select the camera.

For each of the front camera and back camera, three items each, total of 6 items are displayed (3 in the case of the back camera only model).
The difference is the resolution. Low, Midium, and High are prepared, but the actual resolution varies depending on the model. The actual resolution is displayed on the second line of the list.

The frame rate of the camera is fixed at 30 fps.

To the media pool, just like in the case of movies and images, you can place them by tapping the list. Multiple camera items can be placed on the media pool, but only one can be loaded in fact. It will also be the late arrival priority. For example, loading camera items on A-bus, loading camera items on A-bus, A-Bus items are unloaded.

[Notice]If you are loading camera items on the A-bus, the camera stops even if you change from Play mode to Edit mode, even when you are in Edit mode or continue playing A-Bus movies.
